About Dr. Katie Kavicky, ND
Greetings!
I am incredibly grateful that you have discovered my website and passion project. I am Dr. Katie Kavicky, the woman behind Ablaze Natural Health.
I am a board-certified and licensed naturopathic doctor practicing in the state of Wisconsin, serving patients in Northeastern Wisconsin and beyond. I am currently working towards becoming a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. If you are primarily interested in my education and credentials, please scroll down a few sections to where I outline that information for you directly. However, I prefer to introduce myself in a more heart-felt way first.
It is my mission to not only provide individuals with personalized natural strategies to promote their health, but also to radically transform the way we look at what health really is. I believe that expanding the definition of health will ultimately help transform the world—one person at a time!
If you have not read about the inspiration behind Ablaze Natural Health yet, please check it out first as I outline who we are and define our inspiration, mission, and values. Understanding this foundation is important so that you can better visualize how you fit into the Ablaze family!
I believe that you are here for a reason.
Perhaps you have a pre-existing health condition and you would like a new perspective. Perhaps you experience unexplained symptoms and want to explore what is really going on. Perhaps you want to prevent getting sick in the first place. Either way, you have actively decided to seek out (or at least consider) a new paradigm or perspective as to approaching your health that will actually move the needle for you.
You have come to the right place. Ablaze Natural Health has a different perspective and approach when it comes to health. If you have not read about our approach yet, I recommend checking it out.
The truth is that we all struggle with health challenges in today’s world.
Our way of living is out of balance with the fundamental laws of nature. And if we are honest with ourselves, we may feel that deeply.
When struggling with my own digestive, skin, mood, and autoimmunity issues, I tried out many different things to feel better. I continued doing things from the same perspective… over and over again. When things went well, I only saw minor or temporary improvement at best. My symptoms often recurred later down the road.
I soon realized that something else had to change—I needed to change.
It seemed as if there was a giant gap between who I had been and where I wanted to be.
Thinking about this gap was initially scary, but there was also something inside of me that wanted to—and felt capable of—rising up to the occasion and embracing change. I deeply believe that we all have access to this ‘thing’ inside of us.
That ‘thing’ inside of us serves as an essential bridge between the two different ways of being.
Its name? Courage.
Franklin Roosevelt had a wonderful thing to say about courage…
“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.”
— Franklin D. Roosevelt
I love this quote because it suggests that—even if something is scary—there is still something much larger than fear. Courage helps drive us past a place of fear and encourages us to step into new territory.
When I accepted the path that courage was pulling me towards, I became open to experiencing a paradigm shift in the way I approached my health. Discovering naturopathic and functional medicine helped me discover and address the real root causes of my health issues. Root-cause medicine is literally the only thing that ever truly moved the needle for my health—it goes much beyond mere symptom management, cutting right to the core.
When you finally arrive at a place of courage, you are quickly met with gifts offered from ‘the other side.’ Courage has the power to propel you past the threshold of your old way of being and into a new way of being. It opens up new doors and a new way of living!
I think that connecting with courage is particularly beautiful within the context of health. It inspires us to develop the following:
• The courage to take on (or consider) a completely new paradigm or perspective in approaching your health.
• The courage to ask real questions and honestly question how you have been doing things previously.
• The courage to think about your health in a more critical, creative, and expansive way. You may question previously-held cultural, social, or personal beliefs about what you ‘should’ or ‘should not’ do in terms of your health and lifestyle.
• The courage to uncover which obstacles and imbalances get in the way of you experiencing better health.
• The courage to truly listen to what you want and where you want to go.
• The courage to take action and embody real changes in your life (i.e. healthy behaviors and practices).
• The courage to continue stepping forward into unknown territory because you know that a larger part of yourself intuitively knows where to lead you.
It is your courage that ultimately leads you to where you want to go with your health goals. If you follow that path in a way that demonstrates discipline and commitment to yourself, that’s when you will see that needle move.
Courage is a gateway that can lead to profound transformation. And transformation is what real healing is about.

The Importance of Paradigms
“The term paradigm was popularized by Thomas Kuhn, whose thesis work explained that paradigms control scientific revolutions. There are several related terms that describe a similar concept, including worldview, construct, and meme. A paradigm describes a set of largely unconscious beliefs or assumptions that shape the way we view the world. Looking through such lenses impacts the way we see and understand reality, how we think reality should be, our attitudes, and what we view as unacceptable or threatening in relation to our understanding of reality. Since paradigms solidify these belief systems, they also serve as a ground from which our actions and behaviors emerge. We literally embody our paradigms— they create our ideas of who we are and influence the expression of who we are (via our actions).”
